Bike Donations
Thank you for your interest in donating a bike! Our space is limited, but bikes move in and out weekly as more members obtain sustainable, affordable transportation. We will accept all bikes, but here’s what’s most helpful to our community:
The majority of our members in need of transportation choose bikes with gears, flat or riser bars, and the ability to mount racks or baskets.
Mountain bikes, hybrids, gravel and commuter bikes are our bread and butter. We try our best to put youth members on reliable bike-shop quality brands like Trek, Giant, Jamis, and Specialized.
MoBo’s primary funding comes from our annual Bike and Plant Sale (this year on Saturday, May 9). Volunteers refurbish highest-quality donated bikes throughout the winter for this event. If you’re looking for a new-to-you bike but do not want to fix it yourself, we encourage you to come shop or donate funds ahead of time to help us purchase new parts like grips, chains, and cables to make these bikes sale-ready.
We regularly redistribute bike donations to Pickett’s Corner in Covington and Mobility Together in Lockland. If you live near them, we invite you to contact them first!
We do not turn any bikes away, but will sometimes scrap for parts if bikes are deemed unserviceable or too rusted.
Parts Donations
We will accept any parts, but currently need these:
- V-Brakes with noodles and boots
- Gently used or new grips and handlebar wrap
- Standard or wide comfort saddles
- Rear racks and wire baskets
- Platform pedals with or without pins
- 6-9 speed rear derailleurs
- 6-9 speed new or gently used chains
- Single speed chains
- Gently used or new grip shifters
- Mechanical disc brakes
- Headset spacers
- Gently used or new 27” tires
- Gently used or new 24” tires
- Gently used or new 20” tires
Accessories: these keep us safe on the road and ensure our bikes will be waiting for us!
- Locks: U-lock or cable locks w/ keys taped on or combo code clearly written
- Padlocks with keys and bulk chain also helpful for DIY locks!
- Lights: front (white) and rear (red)
- Panniers or baskets for rear racks
Wish List
We use these supplies regularly and are grateful to receive:
- Rubbing alcohol
- Dawn dish soap
- Simple Green cleaner
- Light chain lubricant (not WD40)
- Polylube (green or red) greases
- Work gloves
- Surgical (non-latex) gloves
- Wire brushes in good condition (brass, stainless, plain steel)
- Tools in good condition (especially metric)
- AAA, AA, and watch batteries
- Toilet paper
- Hand soap
