At MoBo, anyone can volunteer to help with these ongoing tasks:
Cleaning
- Stock the workbenches with rags, fluids, grease, and lubes
- Sweep floors in MoBo shop, kitchen, and Community Room
- Empty metal scrap bins into the Bike Compost
- Empty waste bins into the trash and recycling
- Wipe down and sanitize all surfaces
- Clean anything you like
Parts Sorting
- Sort used tires and tubes by tread inspection, inflation, and diameter
- Sort components salvaged from bikes
- Sort and shelve donated parts
- Check integrity of sorted bins
- Flatten and store bikes by removing the pedals, tying them together with a tube strap, turning the handlebars towards the drive-side, and putting them away in the shed
Salvage
- Take parts off bikes marked for salvage
- Check inner tubes for holes and de-tire wheels
- Disassemble pedals, brake levers, and other components to save (and shelve) their small parts
Grounds
- Tend to the plots in the People’s Garden
- Weed between beds in the Community Garden
- Organize the Free Bench
- Straighten up the Community Room
Welcome
- Greet first-time visitors
- Guide people through the membership form
- Talk with parents as youth service bikes
- Size helmets and set up youth locks
- Facilitate test rides and final checks
Wheels
- Assess trueness and rim wear of wheels
- Measure and sort spokes and nipples
- Measure and label wheels by rim diameter and hub dimensions
- Sort shed wheels based on trueness, wear, oxidization
- Cut wheels down to hubs as needed
- True wheels as needed
Refurbish
- Perform repairs and maintenance on bikes marked for sale
- Prepare fleets for community partners and Pop-Up Bike Shops
- Diagnose and fix major issues (bearings, wheels, shifters) on kids bikes
- Assess price ranges on as-is and ready-to-ride bikes
